It’s that time of the year again. New year. New look. New goals. New body. And a whole lot of resolutions waiting to be fulfilled or not…
We put so much pressure on ourselves and the year’s just started. I know it helps to have a list of goals and to challenge ourselves into becoming better or richer or whatever is on top of your list.
How many on your list are about self care? How many are soul-lutions?
We have become a society that puts more importance on the busy-ness of our lives. More recognition means success. Strength is measured by the amount of clubs and activities we are in. Social media has made us hungry for likes and followers even to the extent of allowing them into our personal lives; they know what we eat, what we do, where we are going, our likes and dislikes – among many other things.
And I wonder, if what we see on the outside is the same as what we feel inside?
Do our successes equal our true and lasting happiness?
Do our achievements give us lasting joy?
Where does our peace of mind come from?
Who and what are we grateful for?
What really gives us peace and contentment?
When was the last time I was happy with just myself?
How many times did I stop to appreciate the little things and thank God for them?
When was the last time I did something good for someone and not tell anyone about it?
When was the last time I’ve spent time with family without outside distractions (cellphone, work)?
When was the last time we listened to someone – like really listen?
What will I do for myself this year?
When was the last time I started my day with a prayer and ended it with a prayer?
When was the last time I give thanks and praise God?
When was the last time I did nothing and said nothing, to be at peace with my creator, myself, and my surroundings?
When was the last time I was my real self?
Is my soul at peace?
Am I at peace?
Who am I really?
What about you? What are your soul-lutions?
And for this first day of 2024, I pray…
Lord, lead the way. Amen.
Until next time,
