When my daughter was five years old, Mulan was one of her favorite animated movies. And the song, “Reflection,” is a favorite of hers.
But as much as I loved the movie like my daughter, I won’t be talking about Mulan’s reflections.
Several weeks ago, a co worker who is fairly new lied to our supervisor about me. For what reason, I have no idea.
Anyway, I am pretty sure you have had many experiences where someone or some people treated you unfairly and wrongly. It could be from hurtful words, lies to make you look bad, disrespect, maltreatment, among other things.
Like any human, our first response would be to get mad or upset, right? It’s how everyone reacts to any wrongdoings of any kind.
But now, the wiser me learned that how a person treats another is more of a reflection of who they are and not of the other. It’s still difficult not to have a “reaction,” but the calmer and wiser me is much better at handling things after they arise. Perhaps this falls under patience or maturity or maybe I just learned acceptance on a whole different level.
And it took many years for me to learn that.
If you look at wisdom quotes, you will find a lot! There’s one for every situation, feelings, and yes, our level of acceptance and honesty. This one speaks a lot of truth.
“Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves.”
Don’t you agree?
But whatever that “understanding of ourselves” brings out of us…?
Is a reflection in itself.
Until next time,
