Have you been around people that are here but are actually there?
I’m pretty sure you do.
“There but not here” generally describes a situation where something or someone is physically present, but not engaged in the current moment or place. It can refer to a person being physically near, but their mind is elsewhere, or an object existing in a physical space, but not being used or appreciated. It can also be used in a more abstract sense to describe something that is present but not fully real or significant.
I’m sure if we just put down our phones and look around, you will see what I’m talking about. It’s everywhere.
Out on the streets, in bus stops, break rooms, and yes, homes. People that are around each other but are somewhere else.
We no longer know how to look people in the eyes and communicate.
Do you agree with me that a lot of people now spend their free time watching TikTok and reels instead of checking in with their families or friends?
And it’s sad to think that people are creating these distances without even realizing it, or perhaps they do but just don’t care. What once mattered to them are now being replaced with someone or something that may not actually be real. A thing behind their screens.
I wonder how many loves were lost or how many “could be” happy moments were set aside because we are “there but not here?”
Could I let you in on a secret? I am a writer of my thoughts and feelings. What I share here are not a product of my imagination. I see it. I feel it. I experienced it.
But just like any of my other writings, this will probably matter to some but be useless to others.
As always, they’re there but not here.
Until next time,
