The Art of Healing

God is good all the time! All the time, God is good!

I’m sure you’ve heard or seen that a dozen times. And I’m pretty sure we all look at this differently at different stages in our lives.  It could be the answered prayers we’ve been waiting for. A dream job, financial blessings, a promotion, and a whole lot more.

And then, there’s healing. It could be anything from physical healing, mental, emotional, or spiritual.

This is a quiet and subtle showmanship of God’s goodness. Why so?

Because it takes time, effort, and lots of trials before we truly get it.

Get what?

What contributes to physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual sickness?

A lot, right?

But whatever the case, we tend to hold on to it for years or as long as it takes us to heal.

The past few weeks, God’s been good to me in ways that I’ve never expected.

Filipinos have these sayings: “I’ll leave it to God” or “God will take care of it.”

I’ve heard this saying all my life. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with it, and then, there is also.

There are situations that we tend to leave it up to God or expect God to take care of it.

But does that free us of the responsibilities?

Physical, emotional, and mental pains usually happen because of “wrongdoings” done to us. Usually. These are the kinds of pains that also take time and effort to heal, especially if done repeatedly or consistently.

But here’s the thing, what I get now:

Healing comes in many forms.

The last bit of it is when you finally see the other side and accept it without conditions.

God showed me that for us to heal completely, we have to accept that not everyone will see us or understand where we are coming from. Not everyone will admit to their wrongs or accept our why’s, and it’s okay to let it go. I’ve learned that in order to be at peace with ourselves, it is perfectly okay to meet others where they are at, and it doesn’t make us any less or more or any wrong or right, whatever the case may be.

That’s what God did with us, right?

Going back to “I’ll leave it to God” or “God will take care of it…”

I think it is a cowardly and easy way for us to not take responsibility for our feelings towards others or for what we did or us addressing a situation that we are involved in.

If we are able to say those things, God is making us aware of it and I’m sure God wants us to do something about it. Not tell Him to “take care of” it or “ I’ll leave it up to you, you know what to do.”

I am not minimizing anyone’s pains as I can tell you that, that’s a cruel thing to do to someone. We all heal differently. We all look at pains and trials at different levels. And the best thing is, God meets us where we are at, always.

But, I hope that someday soon, we all heal completely. I hope that someday soon, we find the courage to look at ourselves through the eyes of the people that we have hurt. I hope someday soon, instead of saying, “ I’ll leave it to God” or “ God will take care of it…” instead we say,

“God, let’s do this together.”

Until next time,
