Where’s Your Nunchi?

Nunchi is a Korean concept that refers to the ability to understand and respond to the feelings and thoughts of others. It can be described as a form of situational awareness or emotional intelligence.

Isn’t it amazing how certain foreign words sounded more profound when explained in English?

How many of us can say that we have our Nunchi?

I don’t think many of us can.

I think Nunchi comes from someone’s ability to understand or relate to all kinds of moods, situations and pains because it’s something that they are attuned to and knows how to handle without making it worse. An awareness due to a lack of thinking of oneself.

I am actually trying to put more words and explanations into this but I believe it hits different for each one of us; to each his own.

I think Nunchi starts in our ability to see us first, hear us first, and accept us, not through our eyes but those of others.

If we learn to understand and respond to our own thoughts and feelings and developed our own situational awareness, then we can be a Nunchi to others.

Because, what we lack…we can’t give.

Until next time,
