Unity in Chaos

“The greatest among you will be the one who always serves others”. Matthew 23:11

It’s been a few days since Helene devastated Western North Carolina. And in the days that followed, people from all over NC and the neighboring states, showed the world what it’s like to be American.

I read a comment in one social media post asking, “ why is it that only in disasters and calamities we see the good in people?”

I don’t have the answer to that and honestly that’s the last thing that came to my mind. Instead, my heart is filled with joy and pride to see North Carolinians and Americans come together as one.

I am not a native North Carolinian but I consider NC my second home (for almost 24 years).

Western NC has a long way to go to get back to how it was (maybe it won’t be the same), but seeing how resilient everyone was and how much help, love and support they’re receiving, they’ll be back stronger than ever.

Go, sit upon the lofty hill,
    And turn your eyes around,
Where waving woods and waters wild
    Do hymn an autumn sound.
The summer sun is faint on them —
    The summer flowers depart —
Sit still — as all transform’d to stone,
    Except your musing heart.
-Elizabeth Barrett Browning-

All I know, life and the world is better when we don’t let our political beliefs, our color or race or ethnicity, our genders and our socioeconomic statuses divide us. We are all equal in the eyes of God. I hope that even in the absence of tragedies and disasters, we remain as one.

“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” Matthew 18:20

Until next time,
