I’ve been in a deep rut as far as to my writing is concerned. Somehow, I created this invisible wall that is preventing me to express myself. Writing to me is showing my vulnerable side. And I truly miss that side of me. To help me get out of this rut, I bought the Ice Breaker (Deep Talk) to get me to express myself again.
Here is my first ice breaker question.
What seemingly insignificant thing contributes greatly to your happiness?
To answer this question, I would say, being grateful.
I have always been a grateful person. From a very young age, I’ve always been appreciative of a multitude of things that comes my way. It could be something as simple as hand me down clothes to something a little bit more exciting; an unexpcted 20 Philippine Pesos for my 9th birthday. Now that I am older, it’s still this appreciation of the smallest and simplest things that gives me peace of mind and happiness.
In this age and time of social media, more focus is being given to living lavishly or to being someone with a great number of followers. This false pretense that happiness can only be had by people with great success contributes greatly to the number of people who thinks they are a failure. Thus making them depressed and unhappy.
If I am going to base my sucess to society’s (or social media for that matter) definition of successful, I would say, I would be in the lower bracket.
Am I unhappy about it? Not at all. Going back to when I was grateful for the hand me down clothes and the unexpected 20 pesos birthday gift (which by the way, I gave to my mother to help with the expenses), I am as grateful for any clothes I get on clearance.
Is being grateful considered insignificant nowadays?
I think society’s influence on our happiness has taken away the significance and importance of being grateful even for the simplest and smallest things.
Me, being able to write this….this made me happy.
What about you, what seemingly insignificant thing contributes greatly to your happiness?
I’d love to know.
Until next time,
